I’ve actually been very productive in 2012 so far. Not that you would know it from my lack of blogging *cough*. I’ve decided to focus on getting the miscellaneous or already begun projects done. This has included a bunch of mending, hemming a skirt, and working on a t-shirt revamp (photos later).

Sewing Swag

Santa/my family was generous this Christmas and I got a lot of sweet sewing stuff! This year I want to learn how to fit patterns so I can start making dresses that actually fit me, so  I got a couple of fun books to help!

I had heard that The Perfect Fit was a great book for fixing all kinds of fitting problems. It’s got tons of photos of common issues and how to fix them like swaybacks, necklines, bust adjustments, etc… It’s a little hard to ignore the ridiculously dated photos, but they don’t affect the actual techniques.

I also received The Party Dress based off the rave reviews I’d seen online (didn’t have a chance to check it out in person as B&N didn’t carry it). It seems like the kind of book that would be best enjoyed with a friend, as the technique it uses for drafting the dress patterns requires multiple hands. I think some of the content will come in handy down the line, but for now it’s just fun reading. Guess I’ll have to give up my hermitage and make some sewing friends huh?

For Christmas and New Years the hubs and I went down to Southern California where all our family is. It was a great vacation filled with family, board games, beer drinking, and beach outings!

As for other goals of 2012, I’ve decreed that it shall be year of the corgi!

Every three years my mom’s side of the family has a family reunion on the island of Kauai. My grandparents own a condo at the Kiahuna Plantations in Poipu. They rent out condos in the same area and we all get together (all 25 of us) and have a grand old time for a week.

This family reunion was especially sweet for me because I got to introduce my husband to all the family who couldn’t make it to the wedding, and share my favorite places and things to do with him. This was everything a vacation should be. Lots of relaxing, tons of swimming (yay warm water!), and plenty of time to do what we wanted when we wanted. Yes this is the voice of wistfulness. *sigh* Three years seems like a long way to wait till next time.

Now introducing 3rd Street Ale Works:

Our second stop was at Third Street Ale Works in Santa Rosa. They brew a ton of beers and offer sampler flights of all the ones they have on tap for a good deal. I’m partial to their fruity beers (usually seasonal), but their Stonefly Oatmeal Stout is pretty good as well. I enjoy the beers at the outskirts of flavor: the hoppy, the stouty, the fruity, and the full-bodied wheat thrown in for good measure. Not such a fan of the lagers and lighter beers, which 3rd St. seems to specialize in.

We like to go for $2.50 beer and brats night on Tuesdays, but I always feel like a traitor when we go there instead of Russian River Brewery.

Roses For Me

My parents came up to visit this weekend and brought me roses! They understand my love of fresh flowers. Runs in the family and goes hand in hand with running a nursery.

Artsy Photo

We spent the weekend driving the countryside. Bodega Bay was beautiful and full of turmoil. Because of the earthquake they were predicting 10 foot waves up my way and there was a tsunami warning for Hawaii. Scary! I have 14 family members who live in Hawaii so my mom was calling to find out how things were. No problems though!

Mom and Pop

There is a spot up the coast called Goat Rock and on the beach were all these seals! Every March the seals come in to the beach to have their pups. I’m hoping to return later in the month to hopefully see some adorable and wiggly baby seals. I love how they lay on their backs. Such cuteness is irresistible. Needless to say, not much sewing work was done this weekend. But I did list stuff on my etsy site finally!

*insert cute seal noises*
